For the last 9 years Mark and I have spent Christmas Eve in Long Island with his family. We drive there Christmas Eve day, stay the night and drive home on Christmas Day to spend with my side of the family. I joke that Xmas Eve is the only holiday I don't overeat because I have still not developed a pallet for the Polish traditional foods. Creamed herring, sauerkraut soup, fried flounder and the new addition, fried eel all make my stomach turn. During dinner are the traditional shots of rye to every family member under the sun. Jack fell asleep on the way home excited about his presents the next morning.
